Subject of talks unknown
Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China earlier this week and met with officials from China Telecom, a local report says. The intention of the meeting is unknown, although Cook was likely discussing the impending launch of one or more new iPhone models. The parties might also have been discussing ways of spurring iPhone sales, given Apple's poor performance in China during the last quarter.
It's unclear if Cook met with other carriers in the country. The only other official iPhone carrier is China Unicom, but Apple could also be hoping to secure its first deal with China Mobile, the world's biggest wireless provider. Outside of carriers, Cook could also be looking to meet with suppliers like Foxconn and Pegatron, particularly since Pegatron has been accused of violating workers' rights.
