Panasonic reinvents the landline handset with Android

Panasonic has taken the humble landline phone and transformed it into something approaching a full Android smartphone. The new KX-PRX120 DECT digital cordless phone runs Android 4.0 'Ice Cream Sandwich' and offers users full access to Google Play for downloading and running Android apps. A built-in front-facing 0.3-megapixel camera also allows users to make video calls with the handset, yet it still offers traditional landline functionality including an answering machine.

The Panasonic KX-PRX120 centers on a 3.5-inch LCD display with a capacitive multitouch display. Users can also expect standard DECT functionality like incoming and outgoing call barring, as well as caller ID, and caller ID memory. Connectivity also includes support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, while users can also view and add content through the included microSD/SDHC card slot. The system can also support up to a total of six handsets.

The Panasonic KX-PRX120 is retailing for $250.
