Motorola Connect, Motorola Migrate apps out before Moto X launch

updated 11:33 am EDT, Thu August 1, 2013

Apps to back up data, manage text messages surface online

Software tools for the Moto X have appeared online, ahead of the smartphone's launch later today. The previously-leaked Motorola Migrate Android app and the Motorola Connect extension for Google Chrome are all available to download, with Motorola Connect showing that it will also function with the Droid Ultra, Mini, and Maxx smartphones launched late last month.

Spotted by Android Police, the Connect Chrome extension will allow Droid and Moto X owners to see call logs and text messages on their computer, via Chrome notifications. It will also allow users to send text messages from within the browser itself, though making and answering calls will still require direct interaction with the mobile device.

Motorola Migrate will allow a user to transfer data from their old smartphone to the new device. Extending what Google already synchronizes themselves, the app will transfer contacts stored on SIM cards, media files, call histories, text messages, and screen settings.
