BlackBerry 10.2 resources indicate new phone could be Z30

BlackBerry is thought to be on the verge of releasing a phablet device, and it may see release under the moniker Z30. A CrackBerry forum member claims to have found evidence of the existence of the device -- previously known only as "Aristo" -- in the resources of pre-release BlackBerry 10.2 code. The references in the code, the forum member said, dub the forthcoming device as the Z30.

The Z30 has been rumored since late last year, with device specs leaking in October. According to some reports, the device will be 5.35x2.67x0.35 inches, with a 4.65-inch screen outputting at 1280x720 in a 16:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to be an all-touchscreen device, as with BlackBerry's current Z10.

The new device would be the struggling Canadian manufacturer's latest attempt to reverse its declining fortunes. While the company's new smartphone with a physical keyboard saw initially strong sales, its all-touchscreen Z10 device is believed to have flopped. Underwhelming sales have led to the firm firing a number of executives and continually laying off staff in an attempt to right its ship.
