Galaxy Golden thought to be name of new clamshell model

As the expected unveiling of a possible clamshell Android phone from Samsung approaches, the device has shown up in images on the Internet. GSMinsider obtained a shot of the device on Saturday, showing off its novel dual-screen clamshell form factor. Samsung fan site SamMobile also reports that the device may be called the Galaxy Golden.

Reportedly, the device will sport dual WVGA AMOLED displays, a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB of RAM, and an FM radio. It will also have two cameras, LTE support, and it will run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Since the debut of the iPhone, clamshell models have become increasingly rare, as all-touchscreen devices have captured consumer attention. There have been models released, though, as in the case of Sharp's Aquos Hybrid 007SH. Samsung, too, has previously tested the clamshell Android device market. The South Korean conglomerate previously showed off the W999, another dual-screen device similar in build to the "Galaxy Golden." So far, none of these devices has become very popular, but Samsung is known for releasing a wide range of device form factors in order to gauge consumer interest with the goal of forming new markets.
