Comcast Xfinity Prepaid TV launches, provides pay-as-you-go cable TV

updated 06:58 am EDT, Mon August 5, 2013

Launch limited to Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania

Comcast has expanded its Xfinity TV service to offer a prepaid version to customers. The pay-as-you-go cable service will provide users with a number of standard definition channels, including a mix of local and national channels, and provides a way for potential viewers to get cable TV without requiring to submit to a credit check nor provide a Social Security Number.

Initially, customers will be required to buy a $70 starter kit from Comcast directly, which The Consumerist states contains a digital adapter box, a remote control with batteries, and some coaxial cable, along with 30 days worth of service. Afterwards, users will be required to prepay for the service, at a cost of $15 for seven more days, or 30 days for $45.

It is not exactly clear what regions are covered by the prepaid service, though the site does suggest sample channels for Detroit, and the retailer finder for the starter kit does mention it will be available in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Comcast is also currently testing a prepaid version of Xfinity Internet in a number of areas.
