MediaTek tech behind first triple-SIM smartphones start to hit the market
Chipmaker MediaTek is powering the technology behind a recently leaked GooPhone and the new LG Optimus L4 II that has just reached the market in Brazil. Both the devices can switch between three carriers and can be utilized simultaneously. Each SIM can receive calls, transmit data, send SMS messages and remain in stand-by mode concurrently without over taxing the battery.
However, to help manage overall battery life, both the GooPhone and the LG devices have kept the rest of the system specifications the respective devices modest. The GooPhone Z1+ will ship with a 5-inch low-resolution 480x854 FWGA display and a low-power MediaTek 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex-A7 processor. The LG L4 II centers on a 3.8-inch low-resolution 480x320 HVGA with a 1GHz dual-core processor. [via Engadget]
