HTC One Max, Robert Downey Jr teased in new ad

HTC has teased its new 5.9-inch One Max text along with glimpse of actor Robert Downey Jr from a rear angle, who is set to spearhead new $12 million marketing campaign by the Taiwanese company designed to raise the profile and sales of its smartphones. The One Max makes similarly makes a brief appearance in the short 6-second clip and is only alluded to with its Instagram listing teasing that there are "Big things ahead." The HTC On Max is the latest in HTCs flagship One range, which already includes the 4.7-inch HTC One and the 4.3-inch HTC mini.

While the new ad is the first official reference by HTC to the Max, there have already been some photo leaks of the handset ahead of its formal unveiling. Yet another photo leak has surfaced overnight, this time highlighting the sheer size of the device with a Motorola XT882 for the Chinese market with a 4-inch display sitting atop it. It will compete head-to-head with the soon to be unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note III, which is also rumored to come in at around 6-inches -- although neither seem to likely to threaten the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, which boasts an enormous 6.4-inch display.

The HTC One Max is expected to sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.2GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM. The chipset also includes the Adreno 330 GPU, which more than doubles the graphics performance of the Adreno 320 GPU seen in devices running the Snapdragon 600 chipset. The battery is rumored to be 3,300mAh in capacity while it will ship in initially in a 16GB configuration and is said to support microSD expansion, unlike its HTC One stable mate. It is expected to debut at IFA Berlin in September. [via GSM Arena]
