Firefox 23 gets Share button, mixed content blocker, network monitor

updated 12:42 pm EDT, Tue August 6, 2013

Share function allows quick sharing of any link

Mozilla has released Firefox 23, an update of its web browser for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. The desktop apps have gained several important features, most notably a Share button, which ties into Mozilla's new Social API. The button lets people share virtually any content on the web without having to use buttons built into a website.

Another addition is a mixed content blocker, which prevents unsecured HTTP content from being read or modified on a page that also includes HTTPS data. A Network Monitor function, meanwhile, lets developers track how long it takes for different parts of a website to load, giving them a chance to optimize a site.

Mozilla has also updated Firefox for Android. Users will now see the tablet interface on smaller tablets, and should see faster WebGL performance thanks to asynchronous canvas updates. HTML5 support has improved with new data and time elements, and the app has been localized in Slovak.

How come I'm starting to get the impression that this ought to read "Firefox 23 gets four new zero-day vulnerabilities, fails to fix 26 bugs reported from version 22 and 47 bugs existing since before version 22, and adds 3 new features which will be used by nobody except the developers; this is the sixth new version since last Friday."
