Samsung smartwatch patent turned into render

The team at Voucher Codes Pro has engaged a graphic designer to mock up renders of what a recently filed Samsung smartwatch design patent would look like in the flesh. If the device, rumored to be called the Samsung Gear, reaches the market in this form it could be a runaway hit. Samsung has been developing flexible AMOLED technology, which it has dubbed Samsung Youm, for a number of years, but has yet to ship a product it. A wristwatch could be the most practical way of bringing the tech to a shipping device.

According to the rumor mill, Samsung could reveal its Gear smartwatch as soon as September 4, where it is also expected to reveal the Galaxy Note III. However, the shipping smartwatch could take a more conservative approach to its design in this generation, if the leaked screenshots from a Samsung smartwatch that leaked earlier this year a more indicative. The screenshots that leaked at the time look designed to fit on a square display 500x500 pixels, rather than on a flexible AMOLED design as pictured. Pricing for flexible AMOLED technology

The market for wearable devices is expected to boom over the next two years, with devices the like Sony Smartwatch and it sequel, the Sony Smartwatch 2 already beginning to gain wider user acceptance. Fitness trackers are currently the most widely used wearable device technology incorporating a range of sensors to monitor as user's health and activity. Apple's rumored iWatch, slated for launch later next year, is said to leverage a wide range of sensor technology, merging a 'traditional' smartwatch design with fitness tracking capabilities.
