Motorola tipped to manufacture next Google Nexus smartphone

updated 08:54 am EDT, Fri August 9, 2013

New rumor rules out LG involvement in Nexus device completely

Following the launch of the Moto X, Motorola is now rumored to be releasing the next Nexus smartphone later this year. The new claim from a consistent tipster, going against earlier denied rumors of LG's involvement, states that Motorola will start shipping the expected Nexus 5 to customers in the fourth quarter.

The claim from Taylor Wimberly on Google+ is likely to be accurate, considering his previous revelations. The former owner of Android and Me, Wimberley revealed that the Moto X would have a continuous glass surface that wraps over the side edges of the device prior to its launch, something later found to be accurate. Other earlier tips from Wimberly concerning Motorola have been accurate according to Android Community.

While there is little known about the next Nexus smartphone, it is believed to pack a five-inch display with a resolution heading towards 1080p, and at least a 2GHz processor. Wimberly points out that it "is not the Moto X," suggesting it will not share a similar design nor specification with the recent release.
