BlackBerry makes new play for teenage audience in the UK

BlackBerry has launched the 9720 in the UK, an ongoing BlackBerry stronghold. The new device follows in the footsteps of the Curve series, continuing with BlackBerry OS 7.1, but incorporates a touchscreen and a reengineered blacklit keyboard. In keeping with its UK-teen friendly audience, the device comes in multiple colors and incorporates a BBM shortcut key for free text messaging over 3G, and free voice calls over Wi-Fi.

The BlackBerry 9720 centers on a 2.8-inch touch display with a 480x360 resolution. It is powered by a low-spec 806MHz Tavor MG1 CPU paired with 512MB RAM. Storage is provided by the user through a microSD card slow, with support for up to 32GB. A 5-megapixel camea is incorporated into the rear, while it carries a removable battery with a 1450mAh battery that is good for up to 7 hours talk time or up to 18 days standby. Wireless connectivity includes support for Wi-Fi 802.11n, aGPS and Bluetooth 2.1.
