Nokia tablet to feature Snapdragon 800, be powered by Windows RT 8.1

Nokia's upcoming tablet has had more of its specifications leaked, suggesting a high-end device is inbound. Nokia has previously been awarded patents on a tablet design, one that made an appearance in March last year, and another, more contemporary design that appeared in April this year. A former Nokia product manager has previously told Electronista that the first design patent was originally for a tablet meant as a companion to the Nokia N9, also taking design cues from that device and running its ill-fated MeeGo operating system. A Tegra 3-powered prototype for a Nokia tablet has also previously been spotted running Microsoft's embattled Windows RT OS.

The rumors surrounding the latest incarnation of Nokia's tablet suggest that it will run Qualcomm's powerhouse Snapdragon 800 CPU, and will be clocked at 2.2GHz. Although RAM specifications haven't accompanied the rumor, it is likely to be at least 2GB, but could be as high as 3GB. The new design for the tablet will see it center around either a keyboard dock, or MS Surface-like keyboard cover. It is said to have USB 3.0 support, HDMI and Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity. The tablet will also center on a 10.1-inch 1080p display, rounding what sounds like a very promising set of specifications.

Most importantly though, the rumored Nokia tablet is expected to be released running Windows RT 8.1 -- which also hints at an October launch window. We've been playing with the preview release of Windows RT 8.1 on the Surface RT and have been impressed with the changes and will write more about it soon. Suffice to say that if this was the original shipping version of Windows RT, it is possible that so many of Microsoft's original Windows RT hardware partners would not have abandoned the platform so quickly. Dear Microsoft:

"Real artists ship" may be a great attitude to emulate, but it did mean to imply actually getting it done before doing so.
