GeekBench 3 released for all major platforms

GeekBench 3 benchmarking utility brings 15 new benchmark tests

GeekBench 3 has been released for all major platforms including Windows, OS X, and Linux on the desktop. A mobile version of the widely used benchmarking utility has also been released for Android and iOS. The new version is the first major revision to the app since version 2 was released six years ago. According to Primate Labs, the new suite of tests includes 15 new benchmark tests that have been designed to real-world processor intensive tasks.

The new tests have been designed to cover encryption, image processing, signal processing and physics simulations. GeekBench 3 also continues with 12 tests from Geekbench 2, although these have been completely rewritten. The scoring system has also been revamped that distinguishes between single-core performance and multi-core performance. The reason for this is that although programs are being compiled, or recompiled, to take advantage multi-core processors, most still utilize only a single core. Single-core performance, is therefore highly relevant when determining how a processor will function for most tasks.

Primate Labs is offering introductory pricing across the board, as app store customers can't be offered upgrade pricing. For desktops, prices start at $5 for a single-platform license or $10 for a cross-platform license, with the offer ending August 31. Mobile versions will have pricing varying according to local currencies.
