Cintiq Companion runs Windows 8, Companion Hybrid uses Tegra 4

Drawing and artist's tablet manufacturer Wacom has introduced the new Cintiq Companion line of tablets. The Cintiq Companion runs Windows 8 and full versions of creative software. The Cintiq Companion Hybrid is a traditional Cintiq when plugged into a Mac or PC, but when used as a mobile device, works as a stand-alone Android tablet with enough power to do light sketching and run other apps.

The Cintiq Companion is an all-purpose, mobile workstation powered by an Ivy Bridge Intel Core processor and Intel HD Graphics 4000. Wacom offers two models -- one with 8GB RAM, a 256GB SSD and Windows 8, and a higher-end model also ships with 8GB memory, but which boosts storage to a 512GB SSD and runs Windows 8 Pro. Both models ship with the Wacom Pro Pen, which features 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity.

When unplugged from a computer, the tablet uses the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, with the Android Jellybean OS, running specially-designed software such as the new Wacom Creative Canvas for painting and sketching. The Cintiq Companion Hybrid is available in 16GB and 32GB models. The Companion Hybrid also ships with the Wacom Pro Pen.

The Cintiq Companion Hybrid models are priced at $1,499 for the 16GB and $1,599 for the 32GB. The Cintiq Companion models are offered at $1,999 for the version with the 256GB SSD, and $2,499 for the Windows 8 Pro model with a 512GB SSD.
