New photos show purported fifth-gen iPad shell

Shows more Mini similarities

New photos show a rear shell alleged to be for the fifth-generation iPad. As in previous leaks, the shell appears to take after the iPad mini, adopting slimmer side bezels to cut down on size and weight. A key difference from some earlier parts is that the edges are now flat, copying the Mini even more closely. The shell also has a similar Lightning port and twin speaker grills.

A shell for an iPad mini is also shown in the photos, but it's unmentioned whether the component belongs to a first- or second-generation model. The Mini is mostly expected to upgrade to a Retina display and a faster processor.

The full iPad lineup should be updated sometime this fall. While it could be announced as soon as next month's iPhone event, recent rumors have pointed to a separate October event, as in 2012. If those claims prove true, new iPads could ship in late October or early November.
