Apple gains in computer reliability survey; Samsung holds lead

updated 04:22 pm EDT, Wed August 21, 2013

Apple-related troubleshooting calls fall by more than half

Apple's score has almost doubled quarter-to-quarter -- to 503 -- in a Q2 Rescuecom survey of computer reliability. The data is based on a mix of manufacturer marketshare and the number of calls Rescuecom's Level 3 technicians have to handle. Between Q1 and Q2, the number of Apple-related calls dropped by more than half, even though Mac marketshare has remained largely unchanged.

The company's score gives it a lock on second place in the survey. Samsung, though, remained in the lead with a score of 874. Immediately below Apple were Lenovo (230), ASUS (191), Dell (56), HP (53), Toshiba (41) and Acer (21). Rescuecom notes that Q2 marks the first time Dell has eclipsed HP in reliability.
