AT&T reveals plans to expand 4G LTE expansion into 50 new markets

New growth expands into portions of 26 states

AT&T plans to roll out 4G LTE in at least 50 additional markets by the end of this year. AT&T 4G LTE currently covers more than 225 million people and 370 markets; with this expansion by the end of 2013, coverage is expected to expand to nearly 270 million people and more than 400 markets.

Major markets benefitting from the expansion are Fairbanks, AK; Dothan, AL; Selma, AL; Redding, CA; Durango, CO; Pueblo, CO; Tifton, GA; Waycross, GA; Kauai, HI; The Big Island, HI; Des Moines-West Des Moines, IA; Twin Falls, ID; Lewiston, ID-WA; Decatur, IL; Kankakee-Bradley, IL; Peoria, IL; Paducah, KY-IL; Alexandria, LA; Lake Charles, LA; Lewiston-Auburn, ME; Battle Creek, MI; Jackson, MI; Joplin, MO; Poplar Bluff, MO; Rolla, MO; Brookhaven, MS; McComb, MS; Natchez, MS-LA; Kalispell, MT; Greenville, NC; Jacksonville, NC; Fargo, ND-MN; Elmira, NY; Utica-Rome, NY; Portsmouth, OH; Sandusky, OH; East Stroudsburg, PA; Pottsville, PA; Abilene, TX; Amarillo, TX; Longview, TX; Marshall, TX; San Angelo, TX; Tyler, TX; Port Angeles, WA; Appleton, WI; Fond du Lac, WI; Oshkosh-Neenah, WI; Gillette, WY; and Sheridan, WY.

AT&T's 4G LTE deployment is part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more than 10,000 micro cell sites nationwide by year-end 2015, as well as deploy more than 40,000 small cells and add more than 1,000 Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.
