New Droid sports physical keyboard
Motorola may soon release a new Droid 5 handset that sports a physical keyboard, according to image posted to Chinese social network Weibo. The new handset so far has no release date, and little is known about its internals. It does sport Verizon branding, though, meaning it will likely hit the United States' largest carrier some time in the near future.
In addition to a slide-out landscape keyboard, the Droid 5 will feature a 4.3 to 4.5-inch display. It is also said to support wireless charging and near-field communications connectivity. The device may also feature water and dust-resistant coatings.
As noted by The Verge, the device seen in the pictures appears to be running an older version of Android, so it may be a prototype device, and the likelihood of its release is uncertain.
Motorola has long featured hardware keyboards in some of its models, even as the company has focused increasingly on touchscreen-only models like its recently unveiled Moto X flagship. The Droid 5 will join other models such as the Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx on Verizon's network.
