Google launches promised Chromecast app for iOS

Alternative to using desktop, Android to configure Chromecasts

Google has launched a promised iOS version of its Chromecast app at the App Store. The app lets users run initial setup of a Chromecast, and later manage settings such as device names and connecting Wi-Fi networks. The iOS release is a free download, and runs on any device with iOS 5.1 or later.

Previously, the only ways of running the configuration process were through an Android app or visiting Google's official setup website on a desktop. Both of those options were present for the Chromecast's launch in late July. The iOS app appears poised to recommend Chromecast-enabled apps, but so far only Netflix and YouTube are supported in the Apple ecosystem. Android users can stream audio and video from Google Play as well.
