Smartwatch to be revealed at same time as Galaxy Note III

An executive at Samsung has confirmed that its smartwatch will be launching at its September 4th event at IFA, alongside the Galaxy Note III. Mobile business executive vice president Lee Young-hee said that Samsung will "be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear" at the event, though initial reports of a flexible screen are apparently incorrect.

"The Gear won't have a flexible display," said Lee to the Korea Times, though when questioned about future wearable gadgets with flexible displays, Lee suggested that Samsung could still be working on more advanced devices. Recent leaks have the Galaxy Gear sporting a multitouch 2.5-inch, 320x320-resolution OLED display with a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, low-power Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC connectivity, and using Android 4.1 as it's operating system.

In the same interview, Lee confirmed the already-expected Galaxy Note III, and that, despite speculation about acquiring its patent portfolio, Samsung currently has no interest in purchasing BlackBerry.
