Verizon shipping Moto X on August 29th, wooden case options spotted

Web-only launch for Verizon Moto X, stock for stores in coming weeks

The Moto X will be going on sale through Verizon on August 29th, almost a week after AT&T launched the smartphone on its network. The increase to the list of carriers offering the Motorola-made device comes at the same time as potential customization pricing for a wood back cover is allegedly leaked by Motorola's own website.

The Verizon version of the Moto X will cost $199 on a two-year contract, the same price as the one available on AT&T, though the launch will only be through the Verizon website, with stores expected to get the smartphone in stock within a few weeks. While the handset's internals are identical to that of the AT&T version, Verizon will only offer the white and black versions of the device, but should start offering devices through the MotoMaker customization system later this year.

The wooden-backed Moto X will apparently cost an extra $50 to users when it becomes available as an option on MotoMaker. Source code spotted by Droid-Life shows options for Ebony, Rosewood, Teak, and Bamboo, along with a number believed to be the cost of the option in dollars. The code does not reveal when the wood options will become available to users, but considering its appearance in the source code, it shouldn't be that long until it appears on the website.
