Source claims Sept. 10th event could see both iPhones and iPads [u]

Claim differs from most other reports, forecasts

(Updated with Loop denial) Apple is planning to introduce both new iPads and new iPhones at its event on September 10th, a source tells Bloomberg. Reports have typically indicated that Apple is only planning to introduce new iPhones. The company is in fact expected, for the first time ever, to launch two new lines simultaneously: a high-end iPhone 5S, and a cheaper mid-tier iPhone 5C.

Launching two iPhones at the same event may make it unlikely that Apple will want to further split attention by announcing new iPads. Rumors have generally pointed to iPads being revealed at a separate October event, much as Apple did last year. The company is thought to be developing a thinner, lighter fifth-generation iPad styled after the iPad mini. The Mini itself is expected to upgrade to a Retina display, a move needed to compete with tablets like the Google Nexus 7.

The claim about the 10th comes out of a story nominally about a new Apple Store in Tokyo's rich Omotesando shopping district. A source tells Bloomberg that construction is due to be completed in February. The publication notes that the land Apple is building on is worth about 16 billion yen ($164 million), but with Apple's presence would go up in value to about 25 billion yen. The company is already listing jobs for a new store in the city, but without a specific location.

The building is said to have three levels, two of which are underground, for a total floor space of 20,109 square feet. It's uncertain how much of that space Apple would occupy, but the company does have stores that big elsewhere in the world.

Update: The Loop's Jim Dalrymple states that iPads won't show at the September 10th event. Dalrymple's sources are generally known to be accurate.
