Executive headed to new cellphone manufacturer Xiaomi
Google's Vice President of Product Management for Android, Hugo Barra, is leaving the search and advertising giant for Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi. The departure comes amidst high-profile personal matters swirling around the company involving Google founder Sergei Brin, and a common romantic entanglement. Barra demoed the new Nexus 7 and Chromecast earlier this summer.
Barra was hired from speech recognition company Nuance in March of 2008. He took the helm of Android chief earlier this year, with the departure of Android creator Andy Rubin. Xiaomi sold 7.2 million handsets in 2012, after its first release in 2011. The Xiaomi MI-2 is very similar to the Galaxy S4 in performance and specification.
