Apple announces September 10th press event

updated 12:12 pm EDT, Tue September 3, 2013

Expected to feature iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C

As anticipated, Apple has sent out invitations for a press event to be held September 10th at the company's Cupertino headquarters. The event will start at 10AM Pacific time, but beyond that, no other details have been revealed. "This should brighten everyone's day," the invitation's slogan reads.

Despite Apple's usual silence, the company is generally expected to reveal two new iPhones: a high-end iPhone 5S, and a mid-tier iPhone 5C. The 5S is predicted to get features like a faster processor, a fingerprint sensor, and a better camera with a dual-LED flash. The 5C is typically seen as a repackaged iPhone 5, but cheaper, thanks not only to the generational shift but a switch to a plastic back.

Apple may also be planning to refresh its Mac lineup and the AirPort Express. Both need to be enhanced with 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and computers like the iMac have yet to make the transition to Intel's Haswell platform.

It would seem, based on the invite tag line, that this will include the release of iOS 7, whose most recognizable change is the advent of bright colored app icons.

I think the invite indicates both what pairof9s said, AND indicate what colours the 5C might be available in. It will be fun to see, that's for sure.

No news on a new MacBook pro? Many websites seem to hint a september release...

Or perhaps the reference could infer a Retina iPad Mini (which would get a brighter display...)

Apple used almost the exact same polka dots for the iPad 2 launch event signage (not invite). Weird that they would reuse a design, unless they specifically want to hint at a new iPad?
