Hovering S Pen above Galaxy Note 3 allows for app switching

Samsung has launched the latest model in its line of phablet devices. The Galaxy Note 3 brings with it a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 0.2 inches larger than its predecessor, slight design changes, and significantly improved S Pen functionality, along with the usual specifications boost associated with new hardware versions, at the same time as its companion accessory, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

Packed into an 8.3mm-thick, 168g (5.9 ounces) case, the Galaxy Note 3 uses either a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 or 1.9GHz Exynos Octa processor, depending on market, with 3GB of RAM and a choice of 32GB or 64GB expandable storage capacities. On the back is a 13-megapixel BSI sensor with LED flash, Smart Stabilization, autofocus, and Ultra HD video recording at 30fps, while the front-facing 2-megapixel version can record Full HD video at 30fps. Connectivity over LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and MHL 2.0 are included, along with GPS, an IR LED, and a 3,200mAh battery.

The signature S Pen has seen a number of improvements. Menu prompts appear when the stylus is removed from its holster, with its new Air Command option allowing it to switch between a number of other functions by hovering the pen above the screen. The included Screen Write app allows for annotating a screenshot, S Finder helps search for on-device content by various filters, Scrapbook helps collect videos, URLs, and other content together, while Acton Memo will perform commands from a handwritten note. The Multi Window function has been updated to allow for multiple instances of a single app to be used on the same screen, as well as to drag and drop content from one app directly into the other.

Samsung will be shipping the Note 3 from September 25th to more than 140 countries, with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular to carry the device later this year.
