New speaker claimed to have equivalent sound quality to larger speakers

Audio purveyor Jawbonetoday announced the Mini Jambox, a new addition to its Jambox family of Bluetooth streaming speakers. The new Mini Jambox is crafted from a single piece of extruded aluminum that makes up both the framework and the face of the speaker. Additionally, the company has also debuted its new music player app for iOS and Android, which consolidates every playlist available from the user across iTunes, Rdio, or the Spotify service.

Inside its nine-ounce aluminum-enclosed package, an airtight enclosure features two neodymium drivers and a passive bass radiator to produce the highest-quality sound possible for its size. Using advanced digital signal processing technology, the Mini Jambox is optimized to play all types of audio content. A built-in, rechargeable lithium-ion battery delivers up to 10 hours of continuous playback, and 75 hours of standby time on a single charge.

The Mini Jambox comes with a free Jawbone application for iOS that lets users customize the speaker and curate the playlists directly on a smartphone or mobile device. Users simply add their iTunes, Rdio, and Spotify music libraries to the Jawbone app to access all available playlists in one place, and switch back and forth between services with the swipe of a finger. The playlist curation service is currently only available on the iOS version of the app, but Jawbone notes that the functionality will be added to an Android version of the app shortly.

The new Jawbone app also lets users personalize the name of a connected Mini Jambox, and quickly demo the 11 voices and eight language options for the voice prompts on the speaker. The Talk button on the Mini Jambox can also be tailored on the app to initiate a variety of different functions, like activating Siri or automatically dialing a favorite contact. The Mini Jambox is also a high-quality Type-1 compliant speakerphone, when paired with a compatible smartphone.

The Mini Jambox is available for pre-order for $180. The unit is available in a choice of Red Dot, Silver Dot, Graphite Facet, Blue Diamond, Aqua Scales, Purple Snowflake, Yellow Dot, Orange Dot, and Green Dot designs. The Jawbone app is available today from the App Store. Streaming and playlist curation services are compatible with all Jawbone speakers.
