Sony notebook with flipping display, tablet with wireless keyboard cover

Sony has launched a new Windows 8 Vaio tablet, and another that converts from a notebook into a tablet. The Vaio Tap 11 is a slim tablet that takes a number of design cues from the Microsoft Surface, while the Vaio Fit Multi-Flip PC can flip its monitor vertically, allowing the touchscreen surface to show on the outside when it is closed.

The Vaio Tap 11 offers a Full HD IPS Triluminos touchscreen, and houses an Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processor with between 128GB and 512GB of SSD storage. Able to stand up thanks to its kickstand, its magnetic keyboard cover charges when connected, but can also be used wirelessly. Alongside its stylus input option, it uses an 8-megapixel rear camera with an Exmor RS for PC sensor, and can connect over Wi-Fi and NFC.

The flipping version of the Vaio Fit line of devices will be available in three versions, with the 13-inch and 14-inch models offering a 1080p resolution, and the 15-inch version having a triluminos 2880x1620 display. Using Intel Core i7 processors, the range can accept up to 8GB of RAM, and up to either 1TB of hybrid storage or a 512GB solid state drive, Intel HD graphics with options of Nvidia GeForce GT 735M in the largest, and the option for stylus input in the two largest sizes. The 13-inch model is also the only one with an 8-megapixel Exmor RS for PC camera on the rear, though all still retain a front-facing HD webcam, along with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, USB 3.0, and HDMI connection options.

The Vaio Fit Multi-Flip will be available in Europe in the fall for the 13-inch and 14-inch versions, with the 15-inch model to come at a later date. The Vaio Tap 11 will also reach Europe in the fall. Though pricing has yet to be revealed, all four devices are expected to reach the US market in the future.
