Sony Xperia Z1 mini leaks out in clear photo
The forthcoming, and yet to be announced, 4.3-inch Sony Xperia Z1 mini has leaked out in a clear photo. It has been pictured beside the recently announced 5-inch Xperia Z1, giving a clear impression of how the two devices differ in both size, and potentially in-hand comfort. Unlike some other 'mini' versions of flagship handsets, the Xperia Z1 mini is thought to retain the same cutting edge quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset found in the larger Xperia Z1, appealing to users who want a powerful Android handset in a smaller form factor.
Although it has also previously been suggested that the Xperia Z1 mini could also retain the 20.7-megapixel camera of its larger stable mate, the leaked photo suggests that the camera opening does not appear to be as large, either indicating a smaller aperture, or both a smaller aperture and a smaller imaging sensor. It is also thought that the Xperia Z1 display carries a 720p resolution, as there is to date, no known shipping 4.3-inch panel that carries a 1080p resolution. Further, even if that were possible, its smaller footprint also necessitates a smaller battery making it even less likely.
The Xperia Z1 mini is currently expected to get a full reveal as late CES 2014 in January. While it appears as though the device pictured is production ready, it could be that Sony wants to give its larger (and more profitable) Xperia Z1 flagship a clear passage before the Xperia Z1 mini threatens to cannibalize its sales.
