Motorola working on tablet with possible customization, reveals CEO

Future Motorola tablet could have Moto X-style color options

Motorola could be releasing a tablet in the future, according to comments made by its CEO. The Google-owned smartphone manufacturer is said to be working on such a device, and considering its current factory system and personalization options for the Moto X, it could end up being a customizable device constructed in the United States.

"That's something we are working on, but [there's] nothing specific to talk about right now," said CEO Dennis Woodside to Engadget during a tour of its Fort Worth factory. When questioned about where the Moto X could expand, Woodside advised "We see a set of products that are taking some of the design cues, as well as technologies, from the Moto X and extending them into other form factors."

Motorola has brought out tablets in the past, most notably the Xoom line, as well as the ruggedized seven-inch ET1 Enterprise tablet. If it indeed follows the path it created with the Moto X, it could end up offering a tablet with user-selectable covers and accents, with the same facility being used for its construction. If Motorola does proceed with making the tablet, it would end up directly competing with Google's existing Nexus range of devices.
