Asus teases PadFone Infinity launch event for September 17th

Teaser video suggests smartphone, tablet dock design remains the same

Asus is preparing to launch the latest incarnation of its dockable smartphone early next week, one which could have some slight internal upgrades compared to the original model. A video teasing a launch event for the new PadFone Infinity, advises that the company will be showing the combination smartphone and tablet dock in Taipei on September 17th.

The invitation and short teaser video received by Engadget gives little in the way of clues for what has changed from the original, a device Electronista saw at Mobile World Congress in February. Aside from the name and the brushed-metal background of the invitation resembling that of the back of the smartphone itself, the concept and the devices appear to be identical, suggesting that the changes are more internal than external.

The original PadFone Infinity concept consists of a smartphone with a five-inch 1080p display that slots into the back of a 10.1-inch, 1080p tablet. The smartphone element has a quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor with 64GB of storage, LTE, and a 13-megapixel rear camera, while the tablet adds an extra battery in order to accommodate the larger display.
