5c to require no down payment
T-Mobile has formally announced its own pricing plans for the iPhone 5s and 5c. The latter will go up for pre-order starting tomorrow at 12:01AM Pacific time, as with other carriers, and come with no down payment cost. A 16GB model will require 24 monthly payments of $22, on top of regular phone and data fees. Significantly, the total price is around $20 less than an unlocked model would cost from Apple.
Buying a 5s involves a $99 down payment, plus 24 monthly installments of $22.91 for a 16GB unit. That makes the device roughly equal in cost to unlocked Apple hardware. The 5s can't be preordered, which will mean going to a store or T-Mobile's website on September 20 when it is expected to debut at retail.
