HTC set to follow Apple\'s lead with a gold colored variant of the One

The HTC One has made an appearance in gold, with the images of a new gold colored case leaking out early from China. The HTC One already comes in several color variants including silver, black, blue, and two shades of red. The new Apple iPhone 5s comes in a new gold variant, which looks to be turning into a trend with Asian markets, in particular, having an affinity for the gold color.

The HTC One has proven a darling with the critics, if not entirely convincing Android customers to switch from Samsung's Galaxy devices in massive numbers. It is due for a mid-life revision before the end of the year with an expected upgrade to a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor expected, up from the 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 SoC in the current model.

It will be interesting to see if Samsung launches a gold colored variant of the Galaxy S4. It too already comes in several color variants including white, black, brown and blue. With HTC, Samsung and Apple all vying for smartphone market share in China, in particular, it seems that offering a gold colored variant is also an important part of the appeal for potential customers.
