Mystery square on back of HTC One Max could be fingerprint sensor

The unannounced HTC One Max has allegedly been spotted in more photographs, with its name all but confirmed in another leak. The phablet, with its expected 5.9-inch 1080p Super LCD3 display, has both its front and back sides on show in new images, while the HTC One Max name in its apparently final branding has also made an appearance.

The shots of the smartphone itself, spotted on Weibo by Mobileleaks, reveal it to retain almost all of the main design aesthetic of the original HTC One. On the back is an unnamed square sensor, which is rumored to be a fingerprint scanner, though it could end up being for some other purpose.

The branding image released by the @evleaks Twitter account shows it as sharing the same logo text for the "HTC One" sections, with the "Max" being a smaller, lower-case font.

It is believed that the HTC One Max will ship with a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM ,16GB of storage, the UltraPixel camera, and a 3,300mAh battery. Unlike the original, it is said that it could ship with the option to expand the storage via microSD. It is thought that HTC will launch the device sometime this year, though when exactly remains unknown.
