Google Nexus 4 16GB out of stock, believed to be stock clearance

updated 04:58 am EDT, Tue September 17, 2013

Larger 16GB Nexus 4 sells out two weeks after 8GB model in US

Google has run out of stock of the 16GB model of its Nexus 4 smartphone on Google Play in the United States, and is unlikely to make a return. The sell-out of discounted mobile devices, coming two weeks after the 8GB version did the same, is said to be a stock clearance before Google starts selling its expected Nexus 5 smartphone.

Sources of The Verge state that, just as for the 8GB model, Google has no plans to bring the device back in its current form, though other regional versions of Google Play still have some stock remaining.

The Nexus 5, expected to replace the Nexus 4 on Google Play, is said to be making a formal appearance on October 14th, alongside Android version 4.4, also known as KitKat. Having been accidentally shown in an Android promotional video and also spotted at the FCC, the Nexus 5 is said to have a five-inch display running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core chipset.
