NTT DoCoMo demonstrating 5G network at CEATEC show in October

5G concept promises high speed, high capacity, low latency

Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo is planning to demonstrate what it believes to be the successor to current 4G LTE services. A stand at the CEATEC technology exhibition in Japan will have the carrier showing off its "concept for the next-generation mobile communication system," along with other items such as intelligent glasses and new models of smartphone.

It is not known how fast the connection will be, but the statement spotted by Engadget mentions "incredible speed, high capacity, and low latency" for the system. Other entities, such as the UK government-funded 5G Center and Samsung's own research, are currently able to reach speeds of 1Gbps at a distance of 1.24 miles, with Samsung hoping to implement 5G in cellular networks by 2020.

Shown alongside the future connection technology will be a pair of glasses similar to Google Glass, though with a display allowing for augmented reality images, facial recognition, and character recognition for live translations. Mobile spatial statistics will also be presented, which could use data about mobile phone locations to help with urban development and disaster prevention.
