updated 09:22 am EDT, Fri September 20, 2013

Phone expected to ship late this year

Finnish startup Jolla Mobile has finally confirmed the specs list for its upcoming handset, which will be the first to run the Linux-based Sailfish OS. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm dual-core 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, while the 4.5-inch display will have 960x540 resolution.

An eight-megapixel primary camera will provide autofocus and LED flash, with a two-megapixel sensor on the front. Other specs include a swappable 2100mAh battery, MicroSD slot and 16GB of integrated storage.

Sailfish is said to have been created by developers who were working on Nokia's MeeGo projected, which was disrupted following the company's exclusive deal to build Windows Phone handsets. The new platform supports Android apps, though the company is nonetheless wooing developers with its cross-platform SDK.

The Jolla is expected to ship before the end of the year for 399 euros (~$539 USD).
