New Microsoft tablets shipping October 21st, includes SkyDrive storage
Microsoft has opened up pre-orders for the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, a pair of upgraded tablets the company launched at an event yesterday. Both second-generation Surface devices will be shipping by October 21st, at the same time as it goes on sale through retailers, with buyers of either tablet also receiving 200GB of SkyDrive storage for two years and a Skype subscription as a free bonus.
The Tegra 4-powered Surface 2 costs $449 for the 32GB model, while the 64GB version is priced at $549. The Surface Pro 2 will be available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models for $899, $999, $1,299, and $1,799 respectively, with the two larger capacity models having 8GB of RAM to use with the Haswell-based Intel Core i5 processor, while the 64GB and 128GB versions having 4GB.
The prices for both the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 are without accessories such as the keyboard covers. The revised Touch Cover will cost an extra $120, with the Type Cover selling for $130, while the Wireless Adapter for Typing Covers is priced at $60. The also-announced docking station, Surface Music Kit, Power Cover, and in-car charger will be available in early 2014.
The original Surface RT and Surface Pro are still available to buy from the Microsoft Store, starting from $349 and $799 respectively.
