Roku line refresh shipping to US, UK, Ireland
Roku has refreshed a majority of its line of streaming set-top boxes, in order to coordinate with its existing Roku 3. While the Roku 3 remains the same, the new Roku 1, Roku 2, and Roku LT all have a number of hardware and software updates, as well as an overhaul in external design to match the current flagship model.
The Roku LT sees little in the way of changes, and is limited to playback of 720p video. The Roku 1 adds support for 1080p video playback, and access to the Roku Channel Store. Dual-band Wi-Fi appears in the Roku 2, along with the remote control with a built-in headphone jack found on the Roku 3, while the Roku 3 itself boasts Ethernet and USB ports on top of the Roku 2's offering.
The Roku LT, Roku 1, and Roku 2 cost $50, $60, and $80 respectively, with shipping estimated for October 8th. The Roku 1 and 2 will also be heading to the UK in October for £60 and £80 each, while the Roku 3 is available in the country for £100.
At the same time as revealing the new devices, Roku announced a new partnership with M-GO, which will add shortcuts for "movies" and "TV shows" on the Roku home screen itself, allowing for quick purchase of M-GO offerings without needing to launch another app. M-GO will also receive a dedicated button on the new remote controls.
