Schematics show alleged exact dimensions of fifth-generation iPad

updated 12:45 pm EDT, Fri September 27, 2013

New tablet should be thinner, narrower

A set of schematics being used by case manufacturers shows the exact dimensions of the fifth-generation iPad, AppleInsider claims. The tablet is expected to be 169.48mm wide, or 15mm narrower than the fourth-gen model. Height has been reduced only slightly from 241.3 to 240mm, but thickness has also been shaved down, from 9.55mm to 7.5.

The origin of the schematics is unknown, but appears consistent with leaked parts and accessories. The hardware is typically forecast to be revealed next month, and take after the design of the iPad mini partly as a way of trimming down weight. It may also come equipped with A7 and M7 processors, 2GB of RAM, and/or a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
