Microsoft bringing subscription pricing to Office Store apps

updated 01:23 pm EDT, Tue October 1, 2013

Additional markets, languages on the way

Microsoft has announced plans to improve its Office Store with new options for developers and additional localizations. In response to feedback, the company will finally enable developers to charge recurring monthly subscription fees as an alternative to one-time purchases.

"Developers will have an even greater choice between free, trial, paid and subscription versions of their apps, broadening their reach to entirely new users, customers and segments," the company wrote in the announcement, which was spotted by The Next Web.

The store will be expanding to support purchases from Russia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Brazil. As part of the broadened reach, developers will be able to offer apps with Chinese, Russian, Dutch, Portuguese Brazilian and Italian language support.

Microsoft notes that developers can begin submitting or updating apps for subscription pricing beginning this month, ahead of public availability in November.
