Dell returns to Android with Venue 7, Venue 8 tablets

updated 12:30 pm EDT, Wed October 2, 2013

Android offerings sold alongside Windows 8.1 devices

Dell has made a surprise return to the Android platform with its latest tablet introductions, the Venue 7 and Venue 8. Not to be confused with the Venue "Pro" variants, which run Windows 8.1, the basic Venue tablets are powered by Intel's latest Atom processors and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The Venue 7 integrates a seven-inch IPS display with 1280x800 resolution and a 1.6GHz dual-core Atom CPU, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Venue 8 steps up to an eight-inch panel of the same resolution, while the processor has been upgraded to a 2.0GHz dual-core chip.

Both of the tablets will be available in black or red colors, with support for stylus input and additional storage via microSD cards.

Dell has yet to announce launch dates or pricing for its new Venue tablets.
