Chromebook 11 weighs 2.3 pounds, uses magnesium-strengthened plastic body

Google has revealed the latest Chromebook to join its ranks, built in partnership with Hewlett-Packard. The Chromebook 11, joining the existing Pavilion 14 and the upcoming Chromebook 14 from HP, opts for a smaller 11.6-inch,1366x768 IPS display with a wide 176-degree viewing angle, a 60-percent color gamut, and a brightness of 300 nits.

Housed in plastic with a magnesium frame, the Chromebook 11 weighs 2.3 pounds and uses a fanless design without any visible screws nor vents. Inside is a Samsung Exynos 5250 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, and a 30Wh battery said to last for up to six hours of continuous use. Connectivity over dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and Verizon LTE is available, along with two USB ports, a Micro-SIM slot on some models, a micro USB connection for charging, a clickable trackpad, and a VGA webcam.

Just as with others in the Chromebook range, Google is providing 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage for two years, a 60-day trial of Google Play Music All Access, and 12 free sessions of GoGo Inflight Internet with the notebook.

The Chromebook 11 is available now, starting from $279, and comes in either of black or white bodies with a choice of four accent colors.
