Sonos Play:1 quietly appears on store shelves priced at $200

Sonos speakers go on sale before official announcement

A new speaker from audio producer Sonos has apparently gone on sale without being officially announced by the company. The Sonos Play:1, having been last seen visiting the FCC early last month, has been sighted on retail store Target's shelves, with the Play family speakers shown to be available in black and white enclosures.

The boxes, spotted by The Verge, could have been placed on shelves in error, earlier than a planned announcement from the company. Little is known about the devices, except that it is thought that the naming convention of the Play range leads to it having a single speaker rather than three or five in earlier models. It is also likely to connected to other devices in the Sonos range, including the Sonos Playbar, though full specifications remain unknown until Sonos releases more details.

Shelf labels shown in the photograph price the Sonos Play:1 at $200.
