Nokia World event set to introduce first phablet, tablet

Nokia has issued an unusual teaser for its forthcoming Nokia World event scheduled for October 22 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Pictured appears to be to the previously leaked Nokia Lumia 2520 6-inch Windows Phone phablet and the similarly leaked Windows RT 8.1 tablet codenames known as the Sirius. Also pictured, intriguingly, is a notebook - it could be a literal representation of the ad copy, which reads 'Watch the action on your screen of choice,' or a reference to Nokia's upcoming acquisition by Microsoft and an acknowledgement of the close integration of its devices and Microsoft's Windows empire.

Far less likely is the possibility that Nokia plans to release its own branded notebook, although Nokia has dabbled in notebooks previously with its ill-fated 2009 effort, the Nokia Booklet 3G. Regardless, the event is likely to be one of the last, if not the last, Nokia mobile announcement. Microsoft's acquisition of the Nokia devices and services division effectively gutted Nokia of its most valuable assets and has guaranteed that the "Nokia" name will not grace another smartphone, or tablet, for at least the next decade.

Both the Nokia Lumia 2520 and the Nokia Sirius Windows RT 8.1 tablet will center on 1080p displays, with the pixel density of the Lumia 2520 likely to be in excess of 300ppi. The two devices will also sport Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 800 quad-core processors paired with at least 2GB of RAM, helping to ensure that Nokia goes out with hardware with some of the best specifications currently available. The October 22 event will be streamed live.
