New Vizio streamer cuts price, streamlines remote control

Vizio has introduced a new media-streaming set-top box along the lines of its existing Co-Star offering, that offers more basic smart TV functionality. The Co-Star LT offers the same apps and services found on the Vizio M-Series smart TVs, such as access to Internet radio and streaming video, but in a device that can be connected to any HDTV with a HDMI connection.

Using a single HDMI input and HDMI output, the Co-Star LT lets existing set-top boxes for satellite or cable to pass through, reports Slashgear, with users able to look through apps while live TV is still playing. Able to connect over Wi-Fi, it can be controlled using a tablet or smartphone via an app, and provides access to Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, YouTube, VUDU, and Hulu Plus, as well as other video, audio, and social apps. The remote control is also pared down from the Google TV-supporting Bluetooth version in the original, to an infrared version with far fewer buttons, while the onboard software driving the device has been changed from Google TV to Vizio's own HTML 5-supporting Vizio Internet Apps Plus.

The Co-Star LT is available now and priced at $80, a drop of $20 from the original Co-Star.
