Same-day delivery option coming to New York, Dallas, San Francisco
Verizon Wireless is starting to offer customers that order online the option to receive their devices the same day. The delivery scheme, which rolls out in Philadelphia today, will see customers able to place an order through the website by 10am and have the in-stock item delivered to the customer's home by 7pm that day.
The faster delivery option costs $20, more than the $15 charged for overnight delivery, reports Phys.org. Verizon also hopes to offer same-day delivery to New York City, Dallas, San Francisco, and Pittsburgh in the near future, though it is not clear if there will be any regional differentiation in price or in delivery timings. The service will not be useful to those looking for out-of-stock devices, nor for those looking to replace an insured smartphone, with Verizon advising for customers to visit the stores instead to discuss their options.
Verizon is not the only company to experiment with faster deliveries to customers. Google and eBay both provide same-day deliveries in a limited number of areas, with other delivery options, such as storing items in lockers, also being tested by retailers.
