Keeps pricetag despite two-year-old specifications
In the process of revealing the iPad Air, Apple simultaneously announced that the iPad 2 would remain on sale at its current $399 pricetag for a 16GB Wi-Fi model. A 3G-capable version is $529. The iPad 2 is now three generations old, equipped with specifications such as an A5 processor, a 1024x768 display, and a 30-pin dock connector.
Apple is adopting a similar strategy with the iPad mini. While new Retina-equipped Minis will go on sale next month starting at $399, the current Mini will drop to $299 for a 16GB Wi-Fi model, and $429 for 3G/4G. Although both the iPad 2 and iPad mini are based on the A5, the Mini has improvements like superior cameras and a Lightning connector.
