LG launches Fireweb Firefox OS smartphone in Brazil

Four-inch display, 5MP camera with flash, autofocus on Firefox OS smartphone

LG has launched its first Firefox OS smartphone, with the mobile device going on sale in Brazil starting today. The entry-level LG Fireweb running the fledgling open operating system touts a four-inch, 480x320-resolution display, and though it goes on sale after the Alcatel One Touch Fire and the ZTE Open, the Fireweb offers a few marginal improvements.

While it has a 1GHz processor from Qualcomm, something expected for this level of smartphone, it is the first running Firefox OS that offers a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocusing and an LED flash, according to Engadget. Its 4GB of expandable storage also dwarfs that of the 512MB in the previously-mentioned devices.

Telefonica Vivo Brazil will be selling the LG Fireweb in Brazil for $449 BRL ($207) off-contract and $129 BRL ($59) with a price plan, something that makes it more expensive when compared to other Firefox OS devices. Telefonica also announced it will be bringing Firefox OS devices to its carriers in Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay in the future.
