Simple Choice customers now get tethering
T-Mobile this week added new features for customers on its "pay-in-advance" Simple Choice plans, allowing them to take advantage of domestic data roaming and mobile hotspot services. The carrier confirmed the service addition to FierceWireless on Friday, but noted that it had actually become available to Simple Choice customers on October 20. The new features are just the latest in a string of moves by the United States' fourth-largest carrier aimed at shaking up the wireless industry.
The new plans come in three tiers. The first, priced at $50 per month per line, offers unlimited voice, texting, and 500MB of high-speed data before throttling, as well as 10MB of domestic data roaming and 500MB of mobile hotspot service. For $60 per month per line, customers get 2.5GB of high-speed data before throttling, 50MB domestic data roaming, and 2.5GB of mobile hotspot service. At $70 per month per line, customers get unlimited data, 50MB of domestic data roaming, and 2.5GB of mobile hotspot service.
Earlier this month, T-Mobile revealed a free international data plan for post-paid customers, offering coverage in more than 100 countries. Just this week, the carrier began offering 200MB of LTE access for free for tablets on its network.
The moves have generated a considerable amount of buzz for the carrier, and it appears to have been drawing in and retaining new customers as a result. In a statement, T-Mobile characterized the moves as a continuation of its "Uncarrier" marketing campaign.
